Privacy Policy
Type It is built so that we never see your content. Your notes, your clipboard history, and every word you translate or rewrite stay on your Mac. This page explains the very small amount of data that does exist, and why.
01 The short version
- Notes, clipboard history and all AI inference run locally on your Mac.
- There are no accounts — nothing to sign up for.
- The app collects no telemetry and no analytics.
- We cannot see what you type, translate, copy or store.
- The only server-side data is what's needed to deliver and limit your license.
02 What stays on your Mac
Type It is a native macOS menu bar app. The features you use every day never leave your device:
- Notes are stored locally on your disk.
- Clipboard history is stored locally on your disk.
- AI translation, spelling correction and rewriting run entirely on-device with a local Gemma model — no cloud, no API calls, no round-trip.
Because this all happens on your machine, there is no server for us to read it from. We could not access your content even if we were asked to.
03 The only data that exists server-side
Three narrow, specific things touch a server. That's the complete list.
a. Your purchase (Dodo Payments)
When you buy Type It, the payment is processed byDodo Payments, which acts as our Merchant of Record — the legal seller of the transaction. Dodo Payments shares your email address with us so we can deliver your license key. Your payment details (card, billing address, tax data) are collected and governed by Dodo Payments, not by us. See theDodo Payments Privacy Policy.
b. License activation (our backend)
When you activate a license, our backend (hosted onSupabase) stores the minimum needed to limit each license to three Macs:
- the license key;
- a hashed machine identifier (SHA-256) — a one-way hash that cannot be reversed back to your hardware;
- your Mac's hostname;
- activation timestamps.
This data exists for exactly one reason: to enforce the “up to 3 Macs” activation limit. It is never used to profile you or to inspect your content.
c. Downloads (Cloudflare)
The app and its on-device AI model are delivered throughCloudflare's CDN. As with any web server, Cloudflare keeps standard server logs (such as IP address and request time) for the download. See theCloudflare Privacy Policy.
04 What we never collect
- The contents of your notes or clipboard.
- Anything you translate, correct or rewrite with the AI.
- In-app usage analytics, event tracking or telemetry.
- Advertising identifiers. We run no ads and no ad networks.
05 Third-party processors
The complete list of services that ever touch your data:
- Dodo Payments— Merchant of Record for payments and license delivery.
- Supabase— hosts our license database (key, hashed machine ID, hostname, timestamps).
- Cloudflare— CDN for app and AI model downloads.
06 Retention & your right to deletion
We keep license records for as long as your license is active so we can support activations and honor your purchase. You can ask us to delete your license record and associated email at any time — just contact us at[email protected]. Note that a deleted license can no longer be activated on a new Mac.
07 Changes to this policy
If we change how data is handled, we'll update this page and revise the “Last updated” date above. Because Type It stays local-first by design, any change here will always be about the small server-side footprint — never about reading your content.
